Mac Mail help, weird problem.

So i want to start using Mail, and i popped in my gmail account and watched all the emails start flooding in.

Weird thing is, the latest are from 2006! It just forwarded the period between 2005 - 2006. Whats the problem here?

Are you using IMAP or POP3? Also, try to re-sync the emails again.

Make sure you are using IMAP and that you have disabled POP in your gmail settings and enabled IMAP there.
