Mac Mail: Limit the number of emails in inbox

I want to connect to my work email from home. I have about 6000 emails in my inbox and do not want to download them all to my Mac. Is there anyway for me to make Mac Mail download only the most recent 100 emails? I can do this on my iPhone.
