It seems the my Mail app never makes the new message received chime, unless the mail app is on top and the active window.

Does anyone else experience this? Anyone have advice or something that may help?

Yes - I have it checked to play the chime in pref.

mine's hit or miss. sometimes it chimes and sometimes it doesn't. what's weird is on tiger, which i run on mt imac g4 it works perfectly. on leopard and sl, not so much.

Yeah, not sure why... If I have it checked under the app pref. why wouldn't it play the chime when I receive mail. It's quite annoying cause I will get an e-mail and not notice it.

I usually only know that I have an e-mail cause my blackberry makes the noise, not the computer.

In Mail->Preferences->Accounts->Advanced do you have a checkbox labeled "Use IDLE command..."?

Is it checked?

If so, uncheck it. Then see if you still don't get the new mail sound.

Awesome. That worked! Weird that it was causing that.
Thanks man. I really appreciate the help and quick response!
