Suddenly, Mail on my MacBook isn't updating my iCloud account, and the lower-left status is either "Downloading Messages" or "Copying Messages." The option to Rebuild that mailbox is grayed out. Other accounts (one Gmail and one Outlook) work fine. And, last symptom, the Mail app doesn't quit quickly; it hangs for a minute or more before quitting.

If I dis-enable the account, quit (with the delay), restart and re-enable the account, it updates, and I can rebuild. But the problem recurs shortly thereafter.

The account works fine on other devices and at iCloud.com

Anyone have any suggestions? Appreciate it very much!

I have the same issue specifically with the iCloud account. Gmail, Exchange, when iCloud account turned off, both work fine...

It's sporadic but still often troublesome. When I quit and restart mail, it seems to be OK for awhile--and that gives me an opportunity to rebuild all the mailboxes in my iCloud account (before the option grays out again). Still occurs though.

Yes, after a force quit it works for some time, but then gets stuck again. Not really usable.

Maybe someone here can help us.

I'm assuming I may have one corrupted piece of mail, but don't know how to find it.

Have you tried entirely removing the iCloud account from your Mac and then adding it all over again? I'm tempted to try it, but it would be a pain--so wondering if you tried that.

I do encounter similar issues with my iCloud account on my Mac's Mail.app.

One of the (many) reasons I switched from gmail to iCloud was "at least Mail with work flawlessly with iCloud".
Boy I was wrong.

Nope, I'm stuck in this situation as well. I'm hoping macOS 11 will fix this :)
