Mac Mail stuck on "downloading messages"

Mail keeps getting stuck on downloading my messages. Anyone know how to fix this? thanks.

Not much info provided - Downloading mail from where? Bad Internet connectivity? Lots of mail? Big attachments?

Shut down the computer, unplug the modem. Wait at least 7 or 8 minutes. Re-connect the modem and restart the computer.

Many times it's just the internet connection that needs to be reset.
