I'm trying to make my Mac run as smoothly as possible and delete files. What can i do besides deleting large files and is there an application or easy method i can use to find the files taking up the most space?

how much ram, and what kind of hard drive do you have? also you can use disk inventory x to see your space usage

I have a standard 2008 macbook so i think thats 6 gb of ram and 120 gb of memory

What? I don't think they came with 6 gigs of ram, unless you put that in yourself. If you didn't, click the apple logo at the top left and hit "about this Mac". That will give you the clock speed and ram installed.

Now if you do have 6 gigs and it's running "slow", I think either you have a lot of applications open that are eating up CPU or you need to replace the harddrive. Generally speaking, deleting large files doesn't speed up the computer.
