Hey

I have a problem: When I log on on Mac messenger all my contacts are blocked and messenger ask me to add them... ANd when I add them again, the blocks can't be undone...

Can somebody help me?

Greetings

Microsoft has been slow in updating the Mac version. Still missing lots of features in the Windows version, which I actually like.

I'd recommend Adium as well.

im having the same problem with mac messenger and i have tried adium and i dont really like it.

if somone knows how to resolve this problem please speak up!

I had the same problem a few days ago, and the posted solution worked for me. However, now every single time I log into Microsoft Messenger, it always shows those "...added you to their contact list" pop ups for everyone in my contact list. No matter whether I block or accept them, they always come back when I restart the messenger. Any ideas? They don't come up on Adium or Windows Live Messenger on Windows.

not sure if anyone posted a reply, but if removing the cache doesn't work, before you sign in, click the "clear account history" button. and just put in your sign information.. hope it helps.

Using an msn account was one of the biggest let downs on the mac. I switched a week ago and even though I knew the problem going in, didnt know it was this bad. I tried Msn for mac, very, very dissapointing. I tried adium, which is also dissapointing but better than msn for mac. I got a skin to make it look almost identical to windows live, but still many features are either missing or not working.

Adium is good, but I cant get window cycling to work, and no touch gestures I have set up with btt work also. And dont get me started on file transfers, a 2 mb picture seemingly takes forever. Very inconsistent.

If you are using Mac Messenger in ‘favor’ of Adium, then you have probably never used adium. Its soooo much better than mac messenger or aMSN.

This isn’t a problem with your client, this is just the speed at which files over MSN transfer. Mac to Mac, or PC to PC its still this slow.

Sorry to call you out, but that is 100% wrong. I'm not saying its the client, but thats only a conclusion I came to without any other guesses. You might be right that its not the client, but its not the speed at which files over MSN transfer. I've been using msn on pc for maybe 11 years. 2 mb files, usually pictures transfer within seconds. Sometimes it doesn't even take 2 seconds. Songs can take anywhere from 30-1 minute. Files transfers take longer when there are connection problems from either side, if not they are lightning quick.

If deleting the associated .plists don't work, clear account history at the login window and that should fix it.

Sorry, how do I do this? I have Messenger for Mac 7.0.2 and I don't seem to see that option of "clear account history"?

thanks in advance

Hi, to clear this issue up...I did a bit of research, because it always annoyed me, and unfortunately it's an inherant problem created by Microsoft. Basically when you use msn messenger, on a pc or a mac, then it connects peer to peer, effectively you've got the direct line to the other persons computer.

However external non msn app's don't have access to that facility, so all file transfers HAVE to be routed via MS's servers to the other person. Hence the huge delay, and wanky 2k transfer speeds no matter what broadband you are on.

I figured it out and did the trick as suggested but the problem still persists...I still can't see my friend as online even though I know he is...

Any other suggestions besides clearing account history & resigning in, or deleting those plist cache files? :(

Using the new MS Office 2011 for mac it has a newer version of MSN that actually supports most of the features found in the PC version. If you search online you can find the download and have access to all the great features as in the PC.
