I have a 1.5 GHz mini that I am upgrading to a 2.3 GHz C2D CPU. I want to also upgrade the RAM from 2GB to 4 GB. I read somewhere that the firmware rev of the 1.5GHz min (MM11.0055.B08) will not support the 4GB - will not allow the CPU to boot. Can someone confirm this? (I know that with 4GB the system will recognize 4gb but only use a max of 3.2 or 3.3 GB, depending on who you believe)
So, if I get the firmware version for the 2,1 mini, can that be used in my 1,1?

Can one point me to some resouces that discuss this issue?
    Thanks
    J

Thanks. I read through all 7 pages 3-4 times...I really have no clue how to do the upgrade - I don't know where to get the files they talk about, and it seems like the downgrade capability work just stopped...Too bad the procedure isn't documented a bit better as well as identifying where the relevant files are....sigh....

I've also read through that forum 7-8 times. I've got a rough understanding on how the hack works, but my knowledge with applescript and terminal is limited. There was talk about making an app to do the hack automatically, but I haven't seen any progress made on that.

I have managed to upgrade my 1,1 mini to a 2.33 c3d processor. I've also installed 2gb of ram. If you want to get even more speed out of your mini, I highly suggest installing a SSD. I have a SSD as a OS and applications drive in the mini, and the rest of my files are stored on externals. My mac mini practically felt like a brand new machine after the SSD install. Boot times were almost instant. Apps launch instantly. Everything is way snappier in response.

If you install the 2.33 c2d processor and want to install OSX lion, make sure you read up on the plist file hack.
