    Hello...
I got my new 2011 Mac Mini to use as a HTPC in my living room and I'm trying to set up WOL on it.

However, I'm not successful in doing so.

I could wake it up when it's sleeping by sending WOL packets but not when it's shut down.

Do you know if it is possible to boot a mac mini thru WOL when it is shut down?

    Thank you.

no. maybe because it's called WOL (wake on lan), not SOL (startup on lan).

Not entirely true.... A WOL packet can usually wake a 'shut down' Windows Desktop PC ;)

Some motherboards keep limited power to it's ethernet port even when the rest of the pc is shut down. It would be useful to have that feature in Macs too.

Lights Out Management (LOM) was only supported in the Xserver which is no longer offered in the quiver of Apple products. Based on the miserly use of electricity while sleeping of the mini, many choose to just keep it sleeping when not in use.

You can also use the Energy Saver section in System Preferences to schedule it to automatically shutdown and restart at certain times when you are certain it won't be used such as middle of the night periods or what ever a persons case may be.
