    Hi All,

I have a MBP 2011 2.3GHz Core i5 Sandy bridge 4GB Ram and have just ordered a Mac Mini 2.3GHz Core i5 Sandy bridge with 2GB of Ram.

I was going to order this http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=AF6FD410A5CA7304 to put in my MBP which would upgrade the memory to 8GB and then place the left over 4 GB from the MBP into my Mini.

Can anyone see why this wouldn't work?

    Cheers
    Nick

It will work. Both the same dimms at the same speed with the same processor family.

So the 2010 mini's RAM won't work in the 2011 mini, I assume.

I was thinking of getting the $799 one and swapping the RAM with my 2010 mini which now has 8GB if the RAM was the same type.

    The RAM in the 2010 mini is DDR3 PC3-8500, DDR3 (non-ECC). The 2011 mini is DDR3 PC3-10600, DDR3 (non-ECC).

Dont quote me on this but I think you can put faster memory into an older machine and it drops the timings accordingly, but dont think it works the other way round.
