I just picked up a 2018 Mac mini with the i5 CPU and 8GB RAM (will be upgrading the RAM here in a few days).

I have it hooked up to this monitor using this cable, running at 1440p resolution. Things are mostly working fine. However, when I switch my display setting to 144Hz in System Preferences, the monitor goes into "no signal" mode. 120Hz and below works just fine.

My understanding is that I should be able to drive 1440p/144Hz given this hardware setup, but perhaps I am incorrect? If so, I was going to go the eGPU route anyways. I imagine with an eGPU, this issue would no longer occur (since I'd be going TB3 -> TB3 on the eGPU, then DP -> DP from the eGPU to the monitor). Is that also correct?

Mini 2018 is prone to black screen on the monitor. It happens in various scenarios without eGPU and/or with eGPU also. And also before or after update. If you are thinking of purchasing eGPU I would suggest you to secure yourself way back in case it doesn't work properly.

I have a different monitor so I don’t know if this will apply, but I needed to make sure that DisplayPort 1.2 was enabled in the monitor settings in order to get all of the display options to work properly.
