Hi there seeking confirmation for Mac mini 2018 RAM upgrade. I currently have 8gb ram (presumed to be apples stock 2x4gb) and have purchased (accidentally...the danger of using Amazon after a few beers!) 1x32gb ram.

The questions are:

1. Can I use a single 32gb on its own or should I have purchased 2x16gb?
2. If a single 32gb is ok to be used, can this be used with the stock 4gb ram to have 36gb?

Any feedback would be gratefully appreciated before I crack the mini open

Yes, I'm running with 4+16.

Side effects: 50% slower memory bandwidth (mismatched memory runs at single-channel speeds instead of double-channel), resulting in ~5% slower performance for typical CPU/iGPU intensive workloads.

If you have the time/ability to return the RAM I'd suggest doing that.
