I've seen dozens of threads about getting past 1920x1080 resolution on mac minis through HDMI, most of them saying that it's not possible. Others mention the need for dual-link DVI cables.

I am able to run this resolution over only HDMI on a 2011 Mac mini, OSX 10.9.4 by using SwitchResX.

Yes but it appears you are only getting it at 35hz. That's fine if all you are doing is watching movies, but unacceptable for productivity.

I went through a bunch of HDMI cables with my Mini and my Asus PB278Q display, trying to get past the 1920x1080 limitation on HDMI. DisplayPort is not always waking up the Mini, even after trying out 3 cables that other users said worked fine for them. Eventually I gave up and just went back to DisplayPort. It's annoying because when it won't wake, I have to cycle through inputs on the monitor to get it come out of its slumber.

However, when I bring my work laptop home (Dell Latitude E7440), it runs 1440P resolution no problems across the HDMI cable.
