Unfortunately, all you have to do is a casual search for display issues. The Apple forum, as well as many other sources on the internet, is full of discussions on both the dim vga (which I experienced) and the dvi static issues. Since the mini is advertised as working with your existing keyboard, mouse, and display, it is disconcerting that it doesn't work with so many existing monitors. Apple only lists the Apple monitors that are compatible, and even the 22" dvi cinema display is not compatible! I had a Samsung 570v analog tft that worked fine on everything else, but gave a very dim, grayish image on the mini. Many people have also reported issues with existing CRT monitors, and many dvi monitors as well. Take a look at this link:
http://www.freewebs.com/themagius/macintoshmini.htm
for a partial listing of dvi monitors that do or don't work, as reported by forum members. The Dell 2005fpw is one of the few monitors on that list that has been reported by numerous owners to work well with the mini. I have been very satisfied with my mini since I got this monitor, but before then I was just about ready to throw it in the trash can. Mac OS X was graceful and elegant, and a joy to use, but the display issues were maddening. As far as I know these issues have in no way been addressed by the recent 'rev B' mini, which appears to be just a shuffling of some options. Shame on you Apple! I love your computers, but please, oh please fix the problems!

We have a Mini and its a great little machine minus its cheap graphics, no display issues. One of the very first sold. Wife loves it but iam turning into a Alienware kind of guy. :D PPPower!

When I had a Mac Mini, back in February, it had some display issues, with a sony CRT. I might pick up up the $599 model. I'm going to put it with a Sony LCD this time. However, it is VGA. I understand the Apple DVI -> VGA adapter is cheap, and people sometimes see improvements, when they pick up one of these adapters from Radio Shack, CompUSA, etc. instead of using the Apple adapter.

Good

Good promo to help a certain number of people get over their fear of the unknown.

And now that the Mini has 512 RAM and a mature revision of Tiger, it's a good time to do this.

It also tells us that Apple has been seeing a high satisfaction rate with Windows users and the Mini, or this wouldn't be worth doing.

But there will be some returns too, so be on the lookout for good deals on refurbs :)

Hmm, I've got a mini which i'm using with a cheapo mag innovations 15" lcd, and other then it being a chep washed out 3 yr old monitor, it looks good. My parents have a brand new Dell 17 inch LCD monitor, and it looks great. I have no issues with the VGA -->DVI adapter either.

Overall, I think that the Mac Mini test drive is a smart move by Apple as it will get those who are considering the switch to try a Mac and OS X. This should end up bringing more people to the platform and it will be a win-win for Apple and the people who made the Switch.

Apple would be REALLY stupid to offer this promo if that were a widespread and current issue. (Of course, forums are a place to find problem reports--few people bother to post "success reports.") So I suspect that it's not.

Was there such a beast? I thought that old thing was always ADC.

They pulled the promotion off their site ...

The apple store is down but it was reported on other sites that the promotion was pulled off the site entirely. Some are saying that the promotion was not supposed to be started yet. Someone screwed up.

wat the hell...thats just stupid, what happens if you ordered one through the promotion already? is there no more return policy? i think that is really stupid of apple

That would make a lot more sense than them just pulling it altogether. But apple did pull the commercials, so I wouldn't put that past them either.
