    Hi all,

Tried searching but didn't seem to find what I was looking for.

Given the new 2.26 Macbook Pro 13" can support up to 8gb of ram is it possible to put 8gb in the 2.26 Mac Mini? It sounds like when the 2009 Mini was released this wasn't the case but do you think it would be possible down the road? My understanding is the Mini has all the same components of the Macbooks so is it just a bios/firmware limitation that's stopping us from putting 8gb in the Mini?

    Thanks.

The current Mac Mini cannot fully utilize 8GB of RAM. Just because the Macbook Pro 2.26 and Mac Mini 2.26 have the same processor, it doesn't mean the Mac Mini can have 8GB of RAM. The motherboard in the Mac Mini has a limitation of 4GB of RAM. And yes, the Mac Mini is basically a fat Macbook Pro without the screen, keyboard, etc.

The 9400m's memory controller in the Mini can address 8 gb of RAM. Apple, in their continuing wisdom , has decided we only need 4 gb.

so do you either of you think that apple might allow for 8gb in the future or will they keep the mini somewhat handicapped so as to not interfere/canabalize their other product lines?

Maybe in the future when iMacs and Macbook Pros can have 16GB and Mac Pros have 64GB. Then the Mac Mini will have the ability to have 8GB of RAM.

In all honesty, if you are truly needing 8GB RAM, a Mini isn't powerful enough for your applications.

    Not if you're using Photoshop.

8GB with 2x4GB DDR3 SODIMM is expensive right now anyways. I wouldn't buy the cheapest mac to spend the same cost just to upgrade the ram.
