Recently I put an SSD in my older mac mini to spring some life into it... I also went from 10.5.8 to Mavericks (old OS still on old HD)... after plugging it all back in I had no sound card recognized... I went and checked all the connections to the audio board and everything looks ok. I then retested and it still didnt work.

I completely removed the ribbon cable to see if reseating it again would work and still nothing... I have then replaced the harddrive going back to 10.5.8 to see if mavericks was the problem... still no help

Is it possible that I damaged the Audio Board in the process? I've taken this thing apart before so I know what I'm doing when taking it apart and I'm always careful. Is there anything else I should check? This is my HTPC so not having sound is sort of a deal breaker

Thanks

Derek

Possible, yes. But even if you did, it's not really a big deal. Just plug in a USB audio device like this: http://amzn.com/B00D69U1B0

It is also possible the connector gets dirty or messed up. It has a combine optical/analog mini-jack audio out port. Try plugging in the other type (analog instead of optical, or the other way around) and see what happens.

thanks everyone

no luck on the other device being plugged in... fairly sure the cards dead

I ordered one of those usb cards, as well as a replacement audioboard (cheap)... both were relatively cheap and i really would rather have the audioboard in than a usb dongle... but decided to buy the dongle as well just incase the board didnt work.

currently using my old MBP as my Media center pc, hah
