    G'day,

I have an old dome AEBS which badly needs replacing.

I'm also jack of my old AppleTV.

If I bought an early Intel Mac Mini (as a HTPC) and set it up to share its network, how would this compare to the AEBS?

(I can buy a refurb AEBS for $149... or if I do well, a Mac Mini for about the same...)

    cheers

    cosmic

I think you'll be better off with a true router instead of trying to configure the mini as one. You don't need to buy an apple router but find one that's great for much less money.

That's one expensive router. But definitely possible.

I can't believe someone would use a computer with a desktop-class processor, 2GB+ of RAM, 100 GB+ HDD just for a router. It's a waste of power, it could have been doing so much more.

Not just a router... Router, file server (with 2TB ext HDD), and home theatre PC...

As it is, my G5 PowerMac often runs 24/7 downloading files, so there's a massive waste... and the AppleTV runs 24/7 too, yet only probably gets 10 hours usage per week.

Irrelevant anyways - I've just bought a 4th gen AEBS off eBay for $109. The Mini will have to wait.
