Mac mini - does it do things while asleep ???

So, got the M1 Mac mini. Using HomePods for sound but these gave all sorts of problems so went for wired set up for speakers through the USB A port at the back. Whilst mini is sleeping, or at least Id put it to sleep, the speakers give out a "pop" at very infrequent intervals, sometimes after an hour, sometimes during the night. I'm on Monterey beta, so perhaps that is a problem, but was wondering if anyone else had a similar experience, or could it be something else ?

Could be “power nap” settings where it wakes up a bit to apply updates etc.
