I'm in need of a new computer for minecraft purposes since my desktop died.

My question is what sort of parts should I be looking for exactly (or what model year if there's opinions on that)

What I'm looking at so far: an older one that's got at least 4gb (I might/probably will upgrade to 8 later on) 2Ghz processor.

Any recommendations are appreciated.

I don't think Minecraft runs well on integrated graphics, esp. earlier integrated graphics you'd find in older Mac minis. As I recall, the last Mac mini with a discrete GPU card was the 2011 2.5Ghz mini. It could be configured with a Radeon HD 6630M graphic card.

Oh that's a good point I had completely forgotten about that! I believe you're right on 2011 as well. Thanks for the help!

The 6630M is a pretty weak card, and the current ones with Iris 5100 completely outperform it in every way.

Get a mid-end Mini with a Fusion Drive upgrade. You'll love it.

If I was looking for something more than just something I could use as a server/occasional media center device I'd do that. But eh. My MBA does me well enough to the point of not needing to drop another 800 on a computer.
