Hello,
since where I live we are entering lockdown again, I thought I'd use the time to redo my network setup at home. I'm planning on using one of my Mac Mini G4s as a file server and for some PowerPC apps (via VNC protocol), i.e. using it headless. However I found out that Mac Minis do not run at full graphics speed when there is no monitor attached. I do not know if this is true for the Mac Mini G4 but for the Intel Mac Minis it is the case indeed. I know there are adapters out there to trick the computer into thinking there is a monitor attached but the interfaces are either HDMI or Display Port. Does anybody know if such "video accelerator adapters" would work with a G4 by using an extra Mini DVI to HDMI adapter? Does the Mac Mini G4 even lose graphics processing power without any monitor plugged?

Thanks for your answers in advance.

I also use my Mac mini G4 as my main file server (I don't use vnc, really just over SSH however). I've never heard of this, but this is what I would do.

Get Quake 3.
Run the benchmark.
Unplug monitor.
Run the benchmark.
Compare the result.

I bought a cheap DVI dummy plug, which works with a PowerMac G4. I presume it would work for a Mac Mini also.
