ok one question, when are you planning to buy it by? i assume the summer right... well the MBP line is going to be updated soon so maybe youll see the SB i processors! wait on it, dont buy as soon as iPad 2 comes out! you never know!!!

The mac mini although not an i series processor is still a good machine. I use mine to run as a media server. Works really well when hooked up to a tv with plex and front row.

The ipad 2 will be a far better machine. I still think that the iPad 1 is crippled in terms if what it should be.

More Ram and a camera are just no brainers. A better processor and connectivity with a better screen will be a bonus if the eventuate.

For you I would think about a mac laptop- a better option for uni.

Well like i say, i'm saving now, and ive got this personal opinion that they're gonna announce it round late jan, feb time, with a release in April, so plenty of time. Then i'll get the new Mac. But I can't personally see the point in having a laptop AND a tablet. But the new yet-to-be-seen features of iPad 2 could change that :p

Update to this Saga,
Few 'events' have happened lately, and i've now got enough money for a 13" MBP, and a mate who works at this particular shop, could get me the base model for around £900.
Now, i'm a lad who does like the latest and greatest in their own way, and buying a 13" which is now 10 months old is giving me huge doubts.
He did make a good point, that for what i use, which is everything except games, video editing, and graphic design, i'd be completely fine with this.
The processor is the one thing that is stopping me from taking the plunge.
So i'm wondering, do i go for it? Or just wait for the new model anyway, so when i'm at Uni, i do have the latest model? :p
I've posted this question in another thread, but:
A 500GB OR 750GB if available, Momentus XT Drive, just to speed it up even more, anywhere in the UK which has a good deal for them?
Many thanks!

Another update now.
Since the last post, Macbooks been updated, iPad 2 released, and I've been stressing out pondering back and forth between the 13 inch or 15 inch.
I've since sold the iMac for 300, which now allows me to get the high end 13 inch for 1117. I've been using an old windows laptop for a couple of months now, just doing work and internet. Really starting to want the life of Mac back, and i think now its going to be the 13 inch. The reasons being, I'm going to use this primarily for Uni, and i dont want a 15 inch model that can tempt me from using high end emulators, games etc instead of doing what i bought it for at uni.
I still dont understand having an iPad 2 and laptop, and I still think the only difference between an iPad and my iPhone 4 is the screen size, the software features are identical.
The resolution on this laptop is 1280x800, so I reckon on the 13 inch i'll be fine, until I possibly decide to get an external display.
I also think all these OTT opinions on the graphics cards on each model are, ridiculous. So i think the high end 13 inch is the way to go, and will probably order one in a couple weeks!
Thought i'd update this anyway, any opinions welcome :)

Old thread, I know, but...
I use an iPad as my primary display for my 2010 Mini Server. With Air Display it works great, at least combined with a few other apps and tweaks. When I game or watch movies I hook it up to my TV, otherwise, in the studio or when I dj the iPad as display works well for me. Flash video would be the downside, but I admit to having a Macbook for casual internet video.
I keep Windows on one drive and OSX on the other, which is the best of both worlds in a very portable machine even combined with the iPad, wireless trackpad and keyboard.
