    Hi,

I bought a new mac mini yesterday from the apple store here in Montreal. I told the salesperson that the mac mini was my 4th Mac and I did want to get it even it wasn't part of the free ipod touch program. He talked to his superior for about a minute and he came back saying that there was no problem and that it was possible. Maybe my purchase history with Apple ( many ipods, macs and displays ) helped my cause.

Is this common pratice or did I just get clearly scammed and my rebate won't be approved ?
Should I call Apple first before mailing it ?

    Thanks.

Rebates are processed by a different office, the person that sold it to you doesn't handle it thus it's very unlikely that they will refund your iPod as the Mac you bought does not qualify for this special deal.

IIRC it doesnt matter how many Macs you own, if you qualify as a student or whatever other requirements the promotion has, I dont think it matters if its your first Mac or not. One of my friends got his iPod for free even though it was his 3rd Mac, and Im pretty sure that it doesnt matter how many youve owned, if youre a student/whatever, then the promotion probably applies and youll get your rebate check within the next few weeks.

Well, I just called my local apple store to double confirm and she said that if the rebate doesn't get approved, they will do it directly in stores.. Wow!

Ask her to email it to you, you want some written proof when the time comes. Her sayings are meaningless if she doesn't remember or plays that she didn't do that. Written proof is something they can not refuse and it holds in court of justice as well
