Good evening from Europe

I was putting a SSD into my Mac Mini 2012 server and accidentally ripped the IR Sensor cable socket apart.

I saw it's screwed on at the end, can I screw it off without losing functionality besides IR which I've never used.

Cheers

On one of my 2012's I broke the IR Sensor. I didn't even both to figure out why. Thing has run like a champ for years now without it. The IR sensor and the front light are on the same board so you may not have a power light either, but again neither will affect the overall working of the Mini.

Sorry that happened to you, OP.

Hilariously enough, I did the EXACT same thing. I had just finished attaching everything back up but then something was wiggling, so I pulled out the motherboard without detaching the IR cable and it exploded and looked exactly like yours did lol.

I searched a bunch on google for a replacement and finally got one at powerbookmedic .com. They're out of stock currently, but I just found one for you: http://www.applecomponents.com/item...t=Service Parts: Boards: Wireless&per_page=30

And yes, you can screw it off and it'll work just fine. As the previous poster said, though, the status light and the IR receiver (obviously) won't work. It doesn't affect the functionality of the computer, though. I waited about 3 months before replacing mine.
