The Machine
Mac mini (Late 2014)
Processor: 3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i7
Memory: 16 GB 1600 Mhz DDR3
Graphics: Intel Iris 1536 MB

The Monitor
VX3276-UHD: 3840 x 2160 (2160p/4K UHD 1 - Ultra High Definition)

The OS
Version: 10.15.4

The Question/Problem
  • Using an HDMI to HDMI cable, I can get 4K resolution. But of course everything is tiny. Using the "hold down option when clicking on scaled" technique, I do get a wide range of resolutions from which to choose, but no HiDPI options.
  • Using an Apple Thunderbolt cable to connect the Mini DisplayPort port on the Mini to the Mini DisplayPort port on the monitor, I get nothing. Nothing at all on the screen. Blank. Black. Nothing.
  • Using a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort cable to connect the Mini DisplayPort port on the Mini to the DisplayPort port on the monitor, I can't get 4K resolution. Using the "hold down option when clicking on scaled" technique, I do get a wide range of resolutions from which to choose, including some HiDPI options, but only REALLY low resolution ones that look like crap.
I am at a loss for how to get a 4k signal and a usable HiDPI option and I am looking for some help with that.

Right now, the best resolution that I can get, which I can actually read on the monitor with my crappy eyes, is 1920x1080 @ 30 hz. This is really a mystery to me because using the same cable on the VX3276-FHD (non-4K) monitor, I can get 1080p @ 60 Hz and it looks good. I also get some various HiDPI options (none of which I would want to use). That's using the MDP->DisplayPort cable.

My Displays screen looks like this:

It DOES NOT look like this:

My Goal
What I would LIKE to get, using any cable that will do the trick, is a HiDPI 1920x1080 mode that looks good.

Other Information
I know HiDPI mode is enabled, because on my OTHER monitor, which is not even a 4K monitor, I get choices like this:

And yes, I have tried everything with just the 4K monitor attached, it doesn't matter. I get the same results as when I have the 1920x1080 monitor attached.

Thanks!
MM

Did you manage to get it working ?
Just bought a 4K TV and hooked it through mini-Dp 1.4 to HDMI cable. I don’t see hi-dpi settings either. Was looking to improve the refresh rate too but I was not able to.
