Wondering if it is possible to create a recovery disk using this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1433

Using a MacBook Air 2011 to create a recovery disk for a Mac Mini?? I guess I would need to know if there is some type of correlation between the recovery disk and licensing from the system that generated it.

I plan on upgrading a Mac Mini I have arriving soon to an SSD. Thanks!

BTW, I know I could wait for the Mini to arrive and create the recovery disk with it, but I'd rather have the recovery disk ready and waiting. :)

I'm not sure if the 2011 Air's build is the same or compatible with the 2011 Mini's.

Because the MBA comes with Lion pre-installed and customized to its specific build, you can only use the recovery disk you create with that MBA.

If you upgraded from SL to Lion and then created a recovery disk, you can use that on any computer.

Edit: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4848 mentions this under "Notes"

    That answers it. Thanks!

    • If the computer shipped with Lion, the external recovery drive can only be used with the system that created it.
    • If the system was upgraded from Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard to Lion, the external recovery drive can be used with other systems that were upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion.

Systems that ship with Lion do not include an external recovery drive.

That is why there are instructions to create one.
