What are some high end monitors for the Mac Mini M1?

I currently have 2 x 24” Ultrafines but they’re incompatible with the M1.

I’m looking for a similar amount of screen real estate, in either one (32”+) or two monitors (24”), and as high a DPI/retina as possible. Text legibility is vital as I’m a programmer.

The only thing I think I would rule out is the Apple XDR. All Dells and all Ultrawides seem to work poorly from I’ve read.

Options seem extremely limited.

I am using a 16" MBP with a Samsung Ultrawide 46"

Single Thunderbolt 3 from MBP to CalDigit dock and then digital display connection to monitor.

Running in 5120x1440 @60HZ

Am I going to have display issues if I buy the new M1 Mac Mini with the same connection?

They are Thunderbolt / USB-C only. MacMini M1 can only drive one TB monitor and another over HDMI...

I'm assuming that you've tried all the USB-C to HDMI adapter solutions to make it work?

The only other 24" 4k display I know is LG 24UD58. It's a 10-bit panel with same PPI as the 24" Ultrafine. The matte coating on it might affect text legibility though.

How do you find the legibility? So many issues reported, I beginning to think either people are too fussy or people aren't fussy enough!

I'm not aware of a cable that will take HDMI from the M1 and convert it to USB Type-C in the LG? Are you?

Thanks, I'll take a look at the LG you mentioned.

I have a Samsung Ultrawide 46" monitor

I am running it off of a 16" MBP, scaled at 5120x1440 60Hz

Looks fantastic! Very legible.

So, the big question is, if I move to the Mini M1 am I going to be able to get this kind of resolution?

Again, single TB3 cable from 16" MBP to CalDigit dock and then from the dock to monitor via display port cable.

I was hoping against hope that I could use a Late 2013 iMac in Target Display Mode for the 2020 mini. Apple Thunderbolt 2 cable to Apple Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 adapter. As expected, it didn't work. I thought I read somewhere that TDM has been history for a while.

Does anyone have experience using the Luna USB-C dongle with a 2020 mini?

Could you zoom in on some text by any chance?!

And what is the model number please?

Samsung C49RG90

Excellent monitor!

The photo introduces a lot of background noise and even blurs the text, but I assure you the text is very clean and crisp.

...and in case any M1 Mini owners with a widescreen monitor are reading this, I'd love to know if that new device will run a monitor like this.

Kind of hard to see with the noise, but I really appreciate that. I'm puzzled why there are lots of people saying it's blurry or that they can't set the correct resolution, and others like you say it's fine... An Ultrawide would be my preference.

I need to stress this...

I am not using an M1 Mini.

I am still using my 16" MBP which has a dedicated Radeon graphic card.

That is why I am getting a superb resolution.

I am wondering if the new M1 Mini can do the same resolution on this monitor

Would anybody know if it is possible to use the old 24'' Apple Cinema Display with Mini DisplayPort to USB-C adapter with a M1 MacMini? It works with 2017 MBP but I'm not sure about the newer models.

My ultrawide is fine with text when not scrolling, it looks amazing. My only issue comes with scrolling of any kind.

I honestly don't know. Why is it so difficult? What makes you think it won't?

Because people on this forum are already complaining about widescreen monitor hookups.

The M1 does not have a separate video card like the 16" MBP does. So, I don't know what kind of widescreen monitor performance one will get. I know the Intel 13" MBP had problems with widescreen monitor resolution because it had integrated graphics.

What happens when you scroll?! Man, everyone has a different experience with these things!
jagged, blurry, text. just get really bad aliasing. I've tried everything on my end to fix or even reduce the problem, nothing. some websites are worse than others. For example, twitter and google docs both look horrible

Which Mac do you have?

M1 - 8gb - 512gb.

From reading here and reddit, it seems 4k monitors pair fine with these. So I'm going to Best Buy today to grab one and see if that solves the issue.

So, thus far, it doesn't seem like Widescreen Monitors are supported with the M1 Mini.

Oh wow... damming report of the M1 and widescreen... Which 4k monitor are you thinking? The whole question of retina vs non retina comes into play next. 24" 4k seems to have decent enough resolution for Macs.
