I can share with you my experience on the heating of the Mac mini M4 (base model) that I bought three months ago, that is to say just after its release.
Honestly after testing, this mini does not heat up too much; during intensive and somewhat professional tasks on the CPU such as video encoding, editing and photo editing I would say that it remains reasonable in terms of temperature, that is to say around 70º-80º.
I would say that it is mainly to the touch that we feel the heat, and this is probably due to the power supply placed at the top of the Mac mini. (And to the dissipation of heat through the aluminum body.)
A maximum of 98º was reached during a multi-core Cinnebench test. Nothing alarming, especially considering the MacBook Air M3 which manages to reach 110º with a less advanced cooling system than the mini.
In terms of games, for those who are interested, I noticed that it pushes the heat a little more if you run titles (especially those not optimized for Apple Silicon chips.
Concerning the fan noise (sorry for the critics) there is objectively NO noise. In any case for my personal use and for three months; and I can say that I threw some heavy stuff at it, anyway, to this little sandwich… Complete silence, including during the Cinnebench tests.
Overall, no notable problem encountered here on the heating for the new Mac mini. 👌

Another non-ARM Mini notorious of its heat issues was the 2018 Mini. But the pros of this small Mac was that it ran an upgradable RAM---up to 64GB. Adding to that the choice of a 6-core, 12-thread i7 CPU and that one can still find it under $300 sounds like a good alternative to current Mini. And no sound issue at all!

I am playing a Windows game on my M4 iMac using Wine (Porting Kit). The game pins the 4 performance cores on the M4 and the game gets laggy. I was going to purchase a Mac mini M4 Pro instead, but am concerned about heat with that small form factor. Am I best to wait for the M4 Studio whenever that comes out?

A bit disappointed with all those posts about little but not too few issues with Mini M4, especially the Pro. Looks like I’m not the only one who’s reconsidering buying the new Mini.

I have seen an ad about an M1 Ultra maxed with 128GB RAM and everything. It made me count my money and replan…😉😁

I have the M4 Pro 12/16 48GB Mini and the temperature/noise issue is blown out of proportion. It's silent probably about 90% of the time, even when I'm editing videos in FCP or DaVinci Resolve. For tasks where the CPU/GPU gets maxed out, the temps hit 100C but it's rare for that to happen. For me it only happens when I'm generating image in Stable Diffusion or exporting heavy After Effects compositions. By default, the fan doesn't go above 1000RPM until the temps hit 100C so it's pretty much always silent. I have a custom fan curve set in TG Pro to always keep the temps below 90C with the tradeoff of hearing low fan noise at around 70C. Overall I'm really happy with the machine.
Hi MikePx96
I also have an M4 Mini Pro and recently bought TG Pro - would you be willing to share your TG Pro fan settings?
Thanks

This is how I have my TGPro set and it seems to work well for me. I'm open to suggestions on improving it though.
