What is your experience with using an M4 Mac Mini (headless) with an older M1 MacBook Pro for Lightroom (and rarely Photoshop)?

My idea is to connect the Mac Mini M4 Pro with the local network via Ethernet and access it via screen sharing, predominantly via WiFi, but potentially via Ethernet as well, if the experience should be materially better. Is the lag noticeable with the M1 MacBook Pro and how bad (if at all) could it be with a 2018 MacBook Pro my wife still uses?

In case that idea / solution does not make sense, instead of the Mac Mini (probably the upgraded M4 Pro and 48 GB), it would then be the MBP in form of the M4 Pro base model.

What do you think?

I would expect "Some" lag and "Some" color degradation. How much? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ "Some"

For me, I wouldn't even try it... just get the MBP.
