I bought a mac mini last week and just got my 1gb ram chip in today. I bought the pqi POWER Series 184-Pin 1GB DDR PC-2700 after reading that it is compatible. I installed the ram and booted up. Here is where i get a few problems:

1. The sound made at start up becomes very static sounding and "crackles". (when i replaced back with the original 256 the sound was normal)

2. The mini boots with the new ram but when i go to check the amount of memory it only says 512.

For now i just put back in the 256. Has anyone else had a problem like this or do you guys just think that the stick of ram is bad? (im leaning towards bad ram but just thought id check here to see)

Thanks

that's interesting...I got the same ram from newegg and installed it with no problems....did you double check to see that you installed it right?

mine is working great and it says 1gb on the mac mini too...hopefully yours will get fixed

RAM is bad, no doubt. Send it back. The fact that it shows only 256 Mb however may indicate that is not a compatible design, rather than the individual sample is defective.

I recommend to choose only RAM that is tested and guaranteed by the seller to be compatible in your model Macintosh.

Thanks
