mac mini no recoder found - HELP!

My Mac Mini which I normally use to burn DVDs and CDs says "no recorder found" when I try burning a DVD with Toast.

I tried inserting a disc into the superdrive and it's not taking it. It acts like it's off. About This Mac say "no burning device found".

Does anyone know how to fix it. I tried restarting my computer several times.

I'm on my third optical drive in my MacMini !

Hmm, I was hoping I could avoid that. It's an old G4 mac mini.

Pop it open, reseat connections. Restart. If the problem persists, get a new drive. Sorry, mate, that's all the advice I have.

Any other ideas? Resetting PRAM? Rebuild permissions?

unfortunately it appears to be hardware related based off the description.

Maybe run a hardware test to be sure.
