Ok, I am busted.
For some reason my mac mini server on OS X SL was not connecting to the outer internet though I could perfectly connect to it locally (through the ethernet switch), so I played with the network settings and effectively lost the connection to it whatsoever. I see the box in front of me, I even see it in the list of computers in the Remote Desktop, but I cannot connect to it.

The other machine is an iMac OS X SL.
I have a keyboard, a mouse and nothing else – and I need to restore the connection... soon-ish.

Now I thought I could connect my keyboard to the mac mini and somehow control it directly, but then I need a screen, too. Is there a way to make mac mini use iMac as a screen wirelessly, or do I need a [firewire] cord?

Thanks a lot in advance.

You can screen share from iMac into server - by Cmd-K (finder)> afp:// server ip > connect... then try restoring the server settings that way ...

Correction: I can't see it in Finder's network list or Remote Desktop app. So I do need to control it directly somehow. Any ideas?

You're going to need some cables and a display at this point.
