prior to the iMac i loved it and didn't have any issues period.

only reason i updated was because i got a great deal on the iMac.

I've actually got the mini for sale on let go because it's just collecting dust

How old can I go with a Mac Mini and still get 4k support? Is it worth it over 1080p?

Is it better to get an older quad core model and upgrade it to an SSD and bump the RAM, or the latest soldered models?

I believe that the 2010 will provide 1080 but won't provide AC wireless, which I guess the 2012 does not either.

I'm using a 2014 2.8GHz i5 with 8GB ram and 1TB Fusion drive.

I see - so I assume anything older than the 2014 models will be fairly crippled on things like continuity, handoff, and airdrop?

My primary device is an iPad Pro, and will likely stay that way - the Mac Mini will be for media, and occasional light work or light gaming (WoW, similar) from the couch. My iOS devices will continue being the main focal points of my setup, so I need something that'll play nice with them.

Is there a particular model I should go for with all this in mind?

I am not familiar with gaming requirements but the 2011 2.5 GHz model has the AMD Radeon HD 6630M graphics processor with 256MB of GDDR5 memory. Also has a SSD option.
