Mac Studio - $2199

At this moment, why would any consumer buy Mac Mini for the same spec? Apple should lower the Mac Mini price and I don't think Apple has ever offered the same price for different specs.

It's weird ... or do i miss anything?

You still have people focused on aesthetics, so a Mac Studio is a blight on their desks feng shui that drives them insane.

While the rest of us look at the Mac Studio, and if it annoys us, we mount it under the desk. And giggle at the extra power available to us.

Yeah it's bizarre. The base M2 Pro is good for those who can get by with those specs but for those who need more GPU/RAM/SSD, that's when it becomes a problem and the value goes down.

I'll throw out some potential reasons but I don't see many people actually doing any of the below.
  • They want a smaller machine on their desk as they would have an easier time fitting the mini underneath a monitor riser shelf for example.
  • They prefer the mini because it would be easier for them to travel with compared to the Studio.
  • The Studio ends up still having the coil whine problem and it really bothers that person.
  • Like Sun Baked said, they prefer the aesthetics of the Mini.

I'll tell you why I traded my M1 Max Studio 64G in for a M2 Mini Pro 32G, no whine.

I agree the pricing is *strange*, but I didn't want to take a chance at a whiny M2 Max Studio since it looks identical design-wise. I hope they fixed it, but since I don't really need those GPU cores anyway, I went with the Mini.

It's an even tougher decision now they are both in the refurb store. The M2 mini and M1 Studio that is.

I've had a Studio since November and never hear a whine. Either I got a good one or all those years of Van Halen made me immune.
It's more likely you got a good one and I had the bad luck of getting one with the whine.

I have already reset my Studio and it's off. I don't hear the whine anymore. :)
