I found an absolute steal Mac Mini on eBay, but have not purchased it as of yet. It's a mid-2011 Mac Mini, said to have 16GB of RAM, a 128GB SSD and a 2.5Ghz Intel Core i5. (The listing is a little confusing, it also says that it has a 500GB hard drive and 4GB of RAM) It's going extremely cheaply, but here's the catch: It won't start at all. According to the seller, it was working up until about a week ago, where it started displaying the prohibitory sign. I at first thought that the storage device had become faulty, but I'm not so sure anymore based on other points. The seller mentions that pressing the ALT key when booting does bring up the menu with the regular storage device and recovery partition, but the machine will not boot when either is selected. They also mention it won't boot into safe mode or an external hard disk with OS X 10.10 installed on it. They mention that they've tried many boot key combinations but they also did not work. They say that the memory, storage device, power supply, WiFi, USB, fans, etc. do work. They say that they tested the memory and storage device in another Mac Mini to confirm that they do work. So, I'm not sure what the problem is. For a bid of $2 so far (I have not bid on it) with $18 to ship, I don't know if I should buy it and see if I can make it work, or if Apple will do anything about it. Does anyone have any ideas?
