Anyone else having issues with the new Mac mini?? I just get in a loop where it says restart now, it restarts, and it does not update. Mac mini restarts and it says I have an update 10.14.1 . Click update now and the same thing comes up when I restart.

What version of macOS is installed NOW?
Go to About this Mac, then click on the version number, immediately underneath the top line in that window.
It will then show the build number.
What is that build number?

I just got my Mini today, and the .1 update took me two tries (it just shut down instead of restarting the first time), but it worked the second time.

Click on that line "version 10.14".
What is the build number that appears? (should be 18A-something)

I'll try again, I have done this 4 times now :( Let me try once more and see if it takes.

Maybe try restarting a couple of times:
Choose "Shutdown" from the Apple menu. Wait until your mini shuts off completely.
Boot again. Try the software update.

You could also try this: Download the updater from the software updates page.
https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1981
(that updater MIGHT be only for non-T2 (older) Macs and might not work on your new mini, but worth trying if you can't update another way.)

Delta, tried what you suggested. Still not working. Really weird. Do you think I should call Apple?

Did you try the update download that I linked?
oops no, let me try that. thanks for helping I'll let you know
[doublepost=1541626454][/doublepost]dang, that didn't work. When I opened the download I got:
The following disk images couldn't be opened
Image: macOSUpd10.14.1.dmg
Reason: invalid checksum

Ah, OK. You got a bad download, for some reason.
Could be a local issue, if you are not in the US.
Be sure to try downloading that from your own support page
Go to Apple.com, then the support tab. Scroll all the way to the bottom (Downloads & Updates under the Resources list). Click the download there for "Download macOS Mojave 10.14.1 Update"

If THAT download gives you the same error, then I suspect that you have something wrong with your system.
Reinstalling your macOS system would be a good choice at this point.

thanks. I am in the USA. I just setup this machine. Not a good sign

EDIT: Been chatting with Mac for about 30 min. I think I am going to just shut down and return this. Not a good sign to have issues right out of the box

Mine has done this too.
Just received the i7/16/256 which powered up fine, updated numbers and suchlike then threw a hissy fit trying to get 10.14.1

Powering off then hung the machine with an eventual "can't boot from this startup disk as an OS update is required" message.

Bit of industrial grade swearing and the combo update linked above has got me back to this point.

dang. you too. sorry to hear that. I am returning mine. To me, for being a few hours old and having issues already, I dont want to deal with it. Will exchange for another.

When you say "new Mac Mini", do you mean a 2018 Mini, or the previously-released 2014 Mini?

IF you mean the brand-spanking-new 2018 Mini, I'm going to take a -guess- that the version of 10.14.1 (Mojave) required to boot and run it is -newer or different than- the "public release" of 10.14.1 that is posted to Apple's servers.

Buyers of the 2018 MacBook Pros had the same problems trying to update.

My advice is, if the update won't apply, just "leave it alone" for a while.

10.14.2 will solve that problem.

Received my Mac mini (late 2018) yesterday and upgraded to 10.14.1 from Software Update just fine. I did have a bit of a weird issue where it downloaded 60 MB and then hung until I cancelled it, but after cancelling it, and rebooting for an unrelated reason, by the time I went back to SU to try it again, it had already downloaded half the update and things were smooth after that.

I'm having a similar problem.

Picked up a 2018 mini today which comes with 10.14 and it won't update to 10.14.2 no matter what.

Already rebooted countless times, shut down, etc and nothing.

Kind of frustrating to have such a silly issue like this, especially on a brand new machine.

Hi,
You might want to manually download the 10.14.2 update from here:
https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1987?locale=en_US
And use it for the update.

Carlos

Well that's worrisome. Is it best to update from a thumb drive or something? I'm on the original install of Mojave, 10.14. Not willing too update if either .1 or .2 are giving people trouble.

"Why won't it update though?"

Do you have the combo update (url in post 18 above)?
If so, try this:
1. Reboot into safe mode (hold down shift key at boot)
2. NOW try running the combo updater.

I got simular issue when I got my new Mac mini 2018. Tried insavemode but could not update to 10,14.2
Called Apple care and instead i had to update during boot. Took longer but it went well.
