I think you're confusing RAM - Memory, and Disk Storage - Memory.
Um no, I'm not. Was it the image file reference? You need the memory for swap operations and just storing images you're working on. I'm not talking about storing your iPhoto library.

You've seen the performance of a computer leap when you go from 8 or 16 GB of memory to 64 or 128, right? I mean c'mon now, this is ridiculous in 2020.

The memory is built into the M1 chip so there is no way to upgrade ram after purchase. And the unified architecture also seems to indicate that the GPU will have to share the ram, instead of having it's own ram.
Do you know if is SDD drive upgradable?

Wonder how the graphic intensive (Photoshop, Premiere, video encodes, etc.) tasks will do on this. Considering using this as a new setup to replace my 2012 i7 iMac. That thing is really starting to show it's age.

Way over my head with that one haha. So not this generation Mini? Or will that come in an update?
He's saying it'll be slower until the code has been natively built for ARM rather than emulated. How much slower is unknown, Apple seems to be showing this as pretty seamless. I also imagine Adobe has been putting a lot of resources into optimizing their code for this transition.

Since no one is talking about it here I will bring it up.... Is it silver or are my eyes fooling me? I love the original silver finish of the Mac! ❤️

Looks very impressive, but I must admit I'm extremely disappointed by only having 16 GB of ram and two USB-C ports. Thats a major downgrade from the previous models. It really doesn't make much sense to impose those limitations.
I think we’re going to see a “Pro” mini model introduced later down the road...

I don't think so. I think as the Apple silicon evolves (M2?) perhaps higher memory options will become available. 8 GB is enough for most users so they picked 16 GB for those who need more than that. You can use a hub if you need more ports.

Edit there is a rumor of a smaller version of the Mac Pro but who knows.

For the new and future Mac Mini models I think the new I/O is about to become the standard. In future iterations We might get more options for RAM and SSD storage but doubtful there will be more ports added. It’s possible Apple might add a Mac Mini Pro or more likely create a Mac Pro Mini with a wider range of I/O options but the first three Macs released with the M1 are aimed at the consumer market.

2021 will bring more Macs so it will be fascinating to see how these differ from the just released models. The next time they update the Mac Mini will be 2022 in my opinion. It really feels like they are gouging on the RAM and SSD upgrades.

16gb Ram = Bluuugh - Good ole Apple they always seem to manage to XXXX up something
Hopefully, it's not just greed but there's a significant speed boost from having the RAM on the package right next to the processor.

16GB is going to be perfect for a lot of stuff, but people who need more... need more (ditto for i/o capacity and ports). The new Mini just isn't a replacement for the higher-specced Minis, iMacs and MacBook Pros, even if the new CPU/GPU can beat them in a 100m sprint.

We'll have to wait and see what Apple does with the 16"MBP, iMac and the rumoured half-size Mac Pro.

Just got new fastest 27" Imac today. So could easily return it. New macs are great, but not enough memory, so I'll wait for the new half size Macpro. If the Mini had had 64GB / 2TB SSD then I would have bought several.

I'll wait to see how reviews are. Hopefully with the new M1 chip, 16GB of memory is overkill. Crazy if it isn't. Plus, we need that graphic's boost too, since no eGPU's.

Is this a joke or are you just brainwashed?
Why in hell would you ever care for efficiency on a machine not powered by a battery!?
the Only reason to go with this is processor is to lower the production cost of adding a decent cooling method.
I'm sorry but in my book, this is just a flop, I sure hope there will be another version.

I believe the Mac Mini with Apple Silicon could rival an iMac Pro in power if Apple would only push it that far but I’m sure they won’t to not cannibalize sales.

I still hope Apple won’t hold back too much when it comes to the new Silicon based specs.

Imagine a A14X based 8-12 core CPU/ GPU, up to 128GB Ram, etc.
My main concern isn't really on performance... I'm sure this will be more than enough for the daily/average user. I'm wondering if you can still run windows on it (software compatibility)?

No, you can't. Boot Camp doesn't exist and virtualisation solutions such as Parallels Desktop cannot run x86 operating systems on ARM architecture.
