For $1299 retail price I think the M2 Pro Max Mini is a pretty good deal with 16gb ram and 512gb ssd out of the box.

Heck the base model for $599 is also a pretty good deal. That is tablet pricing and a much faster and more capable device.

Heck if you buy your own accessories not apple branded you could have a sweet desktop with M2 Pro for around $1500 or so with M2 Pro.

A lot of people have been waiting for the new Mac Mini and I think this is a really excellent upgrade.

Sure the M3 when it comes out will be better but for now the M2 is no slouch and pricing at retail seems reasonable. Wait till these go on sale in 6 months or so.

Yes! I already ordered the 10C M2 Pro, 32 GB, 1T. And it will drive the 6K, 5k, and 4k screens I already have, all at the same time!! I will miss the M1 iMac the mini is replacing. It’s been amazing, and has a great screen, but it doesn’t drive enough external displays.

I notice the price of M2 Pro Mac mini is now showing on Apple web site at $1199 !!

problem is when I choose mac mini with m2 pro, 32GB ram, 1TB ssd, price is almost same as Mac Studio with m1 max, 32GB ram and 1TB ssd.

I hate Apple's pricing mechanism, it kills low-end mac and encourage you to purchase highest spec always.

I was in the same dilemma as you, but I like the compactness of the mini and in terms of CPU power, M2 Pro mini is faster than the M1 Max (12 cores vs 10). Only if you need graphic power you should go the Studio. Finally ordered the mini with 1T/32G (Pro 12c)

I agree with you, but if you think more about it, the Apple pricing system is actually ok! I was in the same dilemma as you (and I'm still a bit confuse about what I need/want). In my case, there's a non-negligible price difference between the mini M2 Pro 32GB/1TB and the base Studio, which costs 250$CAD more. Yet, the Studio isn't as fast as the mini for the CPU, and has lower specs WiFi (6 vs 6E for the mini) and Bluetooth (5.0 vs 5.3 for the mini). And the Studio *may* be more noisy than the mini (especially if you get the high pitched noise). So to me it's clear that the mini wins over the Studio, even if the Studio has some nice ports on the front.

I'm still debating (and fighting!) with myself about the ram on the mini: 16GB or 32GB?? There's a 517$CAD difference (taxes included) between both choices, which is alot of money just for memory! This is where I hate Apple. I know that 32GB is overkill for what I actually do (and may do in the future), but 16GB is my extreme lower limit and I promised myself that I will never run out of memory in the future unlike what I experimented in the past.

I just received my M2 Pro 16GB/1TB and was on the fence like you for a while as well. The only thing I really use that's RAM intensive is Lightroom, and after playing around with the mini for a few hours last night I'm happy with my decision not to go with 32GB, as it's more than capable. YMMV, of course.

Studio also has 10Gb Ethernet!
