No foolin'. Normally the Plex server is a hand-me-down.
I am considering making the switch to a Mac Mini to transfer my Plex and ARR setup. Right now, I use my Windows PC for everything, including Plex, but I'm looking to shift everything over and acquire a QNAP for additional external storage. My setup isn't too complex; I just have a single 10TB drive for all my media. Perhaps I'll opt for a 4-bay QNAP to expand and use the bays as individual disks.

Probably already answered but do we know if we can power the new Mac mini through a thunderbolt port?

This would be brilliant.

You can't, unfortunately..
That is a shame! Would be really good for me provisioning Mac minis in an office environment. USB-C Monitor that has Ethernet and power in to the Mac mini. Tidies everything up. Bit of an oversight on their part surely?

Yeah, I wish it had this. I love the one-cable solutions. I have a Studio Display that I can just plug into my MacBook Pro and off we go.

Imagine if you could just grab this Mac mini off your desk and take it with you, all while needing just 1 thunderbolt cable.

That is exactly it!

We have hybrid workers and I prefer to give Mac mini to promote desk use. This would be a perfect solution. given the size it just makes it all so much more seamless!

It will never happen because they want to sell multiple devices but I want to be able to plug my iPhone into a screen and it loads up macOS. There is enough power in a phone now...I would just have to give my colleagues one device...

Now, Apple, my wallet is prepared for an OLED 8k 120Hz ProMotion monitor.

is you wallet prepared for 8000-10000$ monitor? :D

I'm tempted to get one pro mini, since iMac was a disappointment. But man, they are not cheap for a beefy pro. But the main issue I have, is the price of their monitor. It is crazy expensive. Add that to the mini and boom - too much for an average user. But no one else comes close to that display quality and design :(( So instead of Apple getting 2/3 of the total price, they get 0 from me.

in that case they should not even give wifi in Mac mini at all.

*urhm*, I am not so sure about that, but...

Take the new M4 MBP's . . . they are portable devices, but also desktop units.

My previous assertion fails in the case of the M4 MBP's 🤷‍♂️

AAPL makes it's own decisions on matters of AAPL; perennially, a lot of room for critical analysis exists.

I'm an WIFI-5/AC house, and I have absolutely no deficit utilising such tech . . . nothing I do needs anything close to what I have (merely) read about WIFI-7 ;)

Apparently no one makes NVME drive enclosures with thunderbolt 5 yet. just started seeing multiple companies making thunderbolt 4 ones like the acasis one I have now

Usually OWC is an early adopter of these types of changes. They have super prices on their T5 cables.
