Hi there,

I'm looking for some software that will monitor activity on our Macs in our small office.

We were using some 'parental' style software but I could do with something more rigid.

Essentially we're going to setup a MacBook for all staff to do any non-work-based things on at lunch time, but I want to make sure that their work Macs are being used for... work.

Something that tracks and keeps a history of web visits and perhaps even takes screenshots would be good. I'd like to be able to block websites too. We'll be making them aware of the change, I just need to find the software first.

We have Mac OS X Server setup if that helps?

Thanks!

I use it and it does pretty well. You can be as granular as you want and even set custom rule sets. This is proactive and blocks them before they get to the site and then tells you who tried to access a specific site in the logs.

Another option that isn't as draconian is to look at productivity monitoring software such as RescueTime. I've never used it but from what I've read about it, it tracks total time on websites for reports and allows users to set alarms for when they were off on a tangent for too long.

It pushes all of the responsibility off on the users so it allows them to break away when they are stressed but also lets them know that they need to come back in a timely manner. I'd be happy to give employees a 10 minute break every hour if the other 50 minutes of that hour were given 110%.
