You can NOT say something like "Macs do not need anti-virus software" without knowing anything about the situation. It's already been mentioned that Macs can host viruses of any kind and can pass them along to Windows computers, making virus software on your Mac quite useful and relevant, especially if you share files with Windows users. Furthermore if you run Windows "on your Mac" then you will need virus software.

That is antivirus software to protect Windows. OS X doesn't need it, unless you are trying to protected Windows.

"Macs do not need antivirus software" is an incomplete statement at best, comically wrong at worst.

To protect OS X, it isn't needed.

so is it true that if you download things from say limewire..you won't get viruses?

Limewire is infested with Windows viruses and malware. They won't hurt your Mac.

There may be a few OS X trojans hiding on Limewire, though. There aren't any viruses for OS X.

Bittorrent is far better than Limewire.

would i need to get rid of the trojans some how? . sorry, how would i know if i had them on my computer? it seems to be running a little slow today. I'm not sure if my brother has maybe done something to it lol or what. It's only a few months old .

If you think your brother may have installed something with a trojan, you can install iAntivirus and scan for them. If something comes up, you have to get the removal tool for that specific trojan.

What he said.

Don't go around installing apps you downloaded from torrents or new codecs for videos on adult-themed sites, and you should be fine. Before you give the admin password to anything, make sure you know what app, where you got it, and why it needs it.

Can clicking on a "preview" where a WMV file downloads cause an issue?

No password put in. Didn't watch it ( was worried becuase it didn't just stream ), but it showed up in my downloads file and I trashed it.
