I was trying to set up my Mac Mini G4 running Leopard to print to my Epson WF-2650 multifunction printer. There are drivers available, they install fine, and everything seems to work. Then when I go to print, it appears to be processing the print job and then it just reports the job has stopped. No errors or any other communication on the computer and the printer acts as though no print job ever existed. I can print fine from other computers, just not any computer running Leopard. Any ideas about what this could be caused by?

Are you trying to print wired? wirelessly over a network? It sounds like this is a shared network printer & the mini is not talking to the printer over network. Some things to check/do:
- can you print via usb cable?
- See if a firewall is blocking the software config. If you do, turn it off & reinstall. The installer needs access to your network to configure correctly.
-Cycle your router (unplug wait a minute, plug back in). Then reestablish WiFi connectivity on your printer.
-Manually reenter your network SSID & password on your printer.

Not that this is all you can do, (rather the limit of what I know to look for when my NP gets stupid) but If all else fails, You can also try a Epson WF driver off guten print. Find the closest number & try it. That is how I connected some of my older leopard boxes to a new printer that didn’t have leopard drivers.

Yeah, it's a networked printer with built-in wireless. The installer for the drivers can talk to the printer fine, it's the printing system within Mac OS that can't, which is what's baffling. The printer's a few rooms away from where I have the Mini set up. I just checked firewall and it's fine. It's probably a driver issue if no other computer is having trouble.

I'll try guten print. Thanks! :)

Hmm is this printer connected to a computer? If so do you have printer sharing turned on?

Check your printer setup in System Preferences.

I've found that it's best to manually add networked printer(s) rather than having the install app add them.

When you do add them, add them from the IP tab and select HP Jet Direct-Socekt, or if you don't have that option, then use LPD.

Put in the printer's IP addess, which is then also going to (un)helpfully fill in the name, so edit that to the correct name. If Auto Select does not fill out the correct driver, dig through the list and find the right one - then add the printer.

You can cheat by adding the printer via Bonjour if the Mac sees it, but I've found it's better to add it the way I mention above.

Hope that helps.

PS. If your router changes the printer's IP address often enough you might want to assign it a static IP. Both of the printers on my network have static IPs simply because I don't need their address changing when I try to print to them.

I have this printer. It’s the worst, printing is spotty from OS X 10.5 PPC, 10.7, 10.15, windows 7 and Windows 10. Wired, wireless WiFi, wireless direct, it’s crap every way from every OS.

Ok, thanks. I'll do that.

Ok, good to know it's not just me.
