with upgrading to El Capitan i no longer can copy a pic such as a book cover of a book i want to put on my book list. or a pic of the author to remember them. I am sorely disappointed as losing the ability to copy a pic makes me lose my ability to learn by saving & printing out into, especially something i'm studying or want to purchase. is the true or am i missing something on how to do this important function?

How are you trying to "copy a pic" and how were you trying to add it to your book list? Please provide the steps you were using. There might be some alternatives available.

What OS were you using when it worked correctly for you?

Hi, i'm using upgrade el capitan OS 10.11.6 imac 21.5" (07)
Normally when i copy an article i use my shift key & pen to highlight what i want, command C then command V to drop onto a new or old file. now i can only copy the print, the photos a part of the article don't copy. right now i just want to copy a review of a book with a pic of the cover for my book file. I'm going to try using the utilities as recommended in one el capitan article i found.

that will work but it's a lot more time consuming. i wonder if el capitan has taken that ability away.
that loss makes copying instruction, with no pics, a waste of time, so if i want pics it's either a time consuming projects to gets the pics & print all on one page. either that or have to look them up every time i need them. losing the ability to easily print out instructions.

I also can no longer search in Mail, which makes it almost useless. now I need to find another way to store & sort emails outside the program. I wonder if something is wrong with my Mail or has apple really removed such an important function from the program?

also hate the dots to highlight a folder instead of the more useful way of highlighting/color coding folder labels. wasting more time working to find folders, again increasing workload & work time.

ctrl-shift-cmd-4 will let you select and will copy directly to the clipboard. All you have to do then is paste the selection in your document.

Not sure what you mean here. The search tab is on the upper right corner of the Mail window - nothing has been removed.

I understand that you may be used to "sort by labels", but the color tags can be a great time saver too, you don't need to go to a particular window or folder, they're all there in one place, just click on the desired color tag. It's another way of doing it, more efficiently imo.

i still have the Search button, but it doesn't work. it used to work, suddenly stopped working just after upgrading to El Capitan. Does anyone have an idea how to get it to work. I've used disk utiilities & disk warrior which say my imac is fine... ?
