There is a piece of software that I purchased and the software is now legacy software. (The company stopped developing the software long ago.) I would like to install the software on a new installation of Mac OS High Sierra. However, I am running into some difficulty because of the need to reactivate the software.

The last time that I installed the software it was on El Capitan and now I am on High Sierra. Also, I am on a different computer.

Section title, "Where is the Application Folder on Mac?

this seems like a rough outline of something to try using a Time Machine backup.

1) Copy over the file or folder (associated with the software) from the applications folder.

2)
~/Library/Preferences/ couldn't find anything for this program there. Ignore?

3)
~/Library/Caches/ doesn't seem like these files matter. Ignore?

4)
~/Library/Application Support/ has a folder there. Copy all of that over?

5)
/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/ I don't see anything at all in this folder in the Time Machine backup. Maybe this directory just doesn't get backed up? Or maybe items in this folder auto delete after a while. Ignore?

Depends on how the software is activated. Some activation methods generate hardware specific keys. If you share what software you are trying to activate, perhaps the community can offer suggestions.

I searched the web a lot and didn't find much regarding this specific software. It's not a popular software.
I think "activate" isn't the right word. (I am pretty sure that there is no product key.) I am speculating but I think that the software more wants to "phone home" with the user's information (email address, etc).

That may be the case but still not enough information to allow community to help.
