Mac OS ROM: Is the version number the larger the better?

I'm always wondering about this, is the Mac OS ROM version number the larger the better?

Or is it better to stick with the original Mac OS ROM you have?
 
There really isn't a better one for your machine. The newer one just has support for more machines. The code for your machine is unchanged with in the newer one.
