I use Mac OS Monterey so painfully. I boot os from external 1TB SSD. every time I have to wait Monterey for 10 minutes to unfreeze itself after login. but I upgrade to Ventura, external 1TB SSD is working as fast as Big Sur as OS disk. after login , a few seconds requires to start all start-up apps. so far I didn't see any bug on Ventura. for so many years, it is first time I see so stable first release of new version.

If I had to wait for 10 minutes for my computer to boot up, I would look into solving that first because I couldn't live with that.

This also probably isn't even a problem with most people including me who find Monterey to run fine

Me too. Monterey is a solid, reliable performer on both of my M1 Macs.

Monterey didn't do that on any of my 5 Monterey machines. You have a configuration problem or compatibility problem or something like that. Do you have a lot of peripherals plugged in? Have you tried a clean install?

I explain more about "every time I have to wait Monterey for 10 minutes to unfreeze itself after login"

boot up time is acceptable, after I type password and login successfully, I could see everything including desktop picture, task bars, icon. However, it is freeze, mouse can be moved, but system doesn't responses to mouse clicking and keyboard typing for 10 minutes. and 10 minutes later it unfreezes itself. system start to response to mouse and keyboard.

I google and find that it only happens on Monterey booting from external SSD. for internal ssd, it has no such issue.
I happy to see that Ventura didn't have such issue, my Imac 2017 could continue to work with external SSD for next 3 years.

That sounds like an OS install issue or something.

I reinstall Monterey a few times, nothing changes, I stop all start-up apps, nothing changes too.

one of post in Apple offical forum told me that it is only because of external ssd as boot-up disk, for internal ssd it won't cause issue. my MBP 16inch 2019 runs on Monterey without any such issues.

Big Sur and Ventura don't have such issue for both internal and external ssd.

No issues with Monterey here, I find it boots faster than Ventura and i prefer the older system preferences to Ventura version. will have to wait for a few more updates and iron out more wrinkles in Ventura before i would switch. Nice to try but so far Monterey is better for me.

For me it boots from external SSD (10Gbps) about with the same speed as Monterey did, 1-2 minutes. But somehow it's slower with enabling wireless keyboard and mouse (Logitech ones), it's another 0.5-1 minute. I guess your case with 10 minutes boot on Monterey is special.

Again, no issues for me either for both of my Macs. And it works fine whether I boot from the internal SSD, or the external bootable SSD "made" via SuperDuper! backups.

Also, ewu, does this issue only happen when you try to boot from an external SSD containing Monterey and all your apps, settings, etc.? What about from your internal SSD? Same behavior or not?

I'm not sure if this is what you did, but if you restore your machine from Time Machine even with a new install, you'll probably get the same problems. The only way to be completely sure is to have a completely new install after wiping your drive, and disconnecting all extra drives or other peripherals.

Back during the High Sierra or Big Sur or something like that I some really long boot up pauses that I eventually traced back to an external hard drive. Also, I had super long app launch times that disappeared with a clean reinstall, but when I restored my Time Machine backup, the super long app launch times came back.
