I'm trying to install Jaguar on my 2003 PowerMac G5 (for the use of Classic support for a few games that are problematic under Tiger).
Well, I downloaded the G5 Jaguar DVD; burned it to a disc only to have it kernel panic on boot. I wasn't really thinking about the fact that the 6800 probably didn't get drivers until Panther.
Is there any way to make this combination work?

Is your G5 a Dual?

Mactracker is saying that the Dual 1.8Ghz minimum OS is 10.3.

I've been meaning to put Jaguar on my single 1.8(first gen), which also has a 6800, for a while now...I should try it and see if I can get anywhere, but it will be next week before I can.

My curiosity about it has always been more the fact that it's supposed to be fast on G5s...about like Tiger running on an SSD on my MP 1,1

aye im pretty sure your issue is down to the 6800

you will have to install a video card that is 10.2.7/10.2.8 compatible (I recommend updating to 10.2.8 esp if your going to be using classic)

I think the best video card for 10.2.8 would be a Radeon 9800 Pro

Yes it's a dual but I doubt that's the problem. If I put my serial number into everymac it says it came with 10.2.7

That's what I was afraid of. The 6800 Ultra was to replace a failed 9800 Pro. All of my Macs are in a relatively small room, and the G5 is hooked up to a 21" CRT cinema display.
I like to play most of the old games on that because they don't look as good on LCDs.
For the time being I just hooked up my 1Ghz TiBook to the setup that's plugged into the G5. The TiBook can boot into OS 9
