I don't think there are any secret features. If there were, we would have heard of them by now. Oh well, spaces and time machine are enough for me. Who knows, maybe there will be, but I highly doubt it.

There will be secret features. Would be marketing suicide if there weren't.

They are coming just wait for the surprise.

The TS features are coming. They are most likely UI related and thus don't require a whole lot of changing for 3rd party developers.

Lets say that Apple revamps the finder and how the windows act and are displayed. That might make some current applications seem out of place but it wouldn't likely cause a whole code upheaval.

If Apple changed the GUI to a more unified or unique them then could likely offer a tool where a lot of the work of updating applications could be automated.

The only TS secret that would take time would be a wholly new API and I doubt you see that this late in the game. Something is coming and you can bet your bottom dollar it'll be user interface related.

I think its perfectly possible for Apple to hide the top secrets until even release date. The APIs and backend stuff are already in the Leopard builds - thats all the developers need to know about. Apple could easily add new apps at the last minute for instance - it would be almost as simple as dragging the .app into the Apps folder.

UI changes like look and feel of windows or new/enhanced apps dont require extensive testing, especially not as much as the APIs and frameworks. which is why i think we wont see these UI enhancements in the developer builds. The developers are given these builds to test out the frameworks and to get them familiarized to the new architecture in leopard. this will allow them to port the current apps to leopard faster. if something like the UI changes, then the developers dont have to rewrite all the code, just the frontend of their apps (maybe not even that with the new xcode in leopard).
so i really think (and hope) that there will be major/minor UI changes and/or new apps in leopard as part of the secret features.

Well, Finder hasn't been updated in either 10.4.9 or 10.5, so I'm guessing it's coming. It's still stuck at 10.4.7. NAB, or around there, we'll see some new looks hopefully. TM and Spaces are cool, as are the others, but Apple has to do something. I'm guessing that's why Tiger wasn't really updated much from Panther, just some new features and programs. Leopard looks to be much more, and there's just no way they'll stick with Brushed Metal again and not use Core Animation somehow.

Course, I've been wrong in the past...

It's pretty obvious that the developer build is not the real Leopard. It's always happened. They always "tweak" the UI a little in the big updates. Developer Preivew of Tiger looked like Panther until they showed off the final version.

It's not really an advance copy, it's a preview. I bet they build the offical one, and then take stuff out to send to developers.

Also, a lot of people talk about Time Machine and Spaces, but a lot of people forget that Boot Camp will be integrated in Leopard. I'm sure they'll have BC more integrated with the OS in a very cool way.

June 11th is now 8 weeks away....... enough time to get everything in Leopard finished?

In terms of developer time-savers, Leopard is going to be huge. As a few examples:
  • new Objective-C runtime is bringing garbage-collection (which hugely simplifies memory management)
  • new Interface Builder has the ability to edit NSToolbars directly in the .nib file rather than in code
  • ImageKit is being introduced, allowing rotation, scaling, cropping, application of CI filters and more to be applied to TIFFs, JPGs, PNGs, PSDs etc... with very little code.
  • new classes such as NSGridView look brilliant and easy to implement
  • PDFKit and QTKit are getting immense upgrades
  • The picture-taker panel is being made into a public API
..and the list goes on. It's going to be immense.

I don't see a reason why the developer build would be any different from the real deal. Developers have to sign NDA agreements. If someone has a gag order, why continue to hide things from them? So far, I don't think there have been instances of developers stealing Steve's thunder in terms of OS announcements, is that correct?

So after thinking about it, I really don't see a reason to remove anything from the internal builds

Developers are under a NDA but that doesn't stop the the copies of Leopard that are on the torrent sites, and Tiger was release onto the torrent sites as well.

Also if the Developer builds were the same as the internal ones we would be in for a long wait or big disappointment if all of the reports from developers are true.

I find that truly amazing. I was under the impression each developer was given a copy with embedded serial numbers, so it would be easy to trace the leakers :)p ) Guess not! or if so, then apple is lazy in pursuing it.

nah, i think they leave out all the special features for the developers, so apple doesnt have to go after them

The fact that iLife and iWork 07 is enough reason to believe that Leopard will have an updated UI. I can't think of any other reason why both would be delayed; it has to be tied with 10.5 somehow.

What about Core Animation ;)

They are being integrated into the OS(?) that is another possible reason.

It still looks like Panther. ;) But actually, once they release a Golden Master to developers, it's the same version you can get in the stores. More or less. I've used the latest dev version. It's nice, but it ain't ready yet. Hoping NAB brings some cool stuff and/or the next dev version is almost full featured, or we'll be lucky to even see Leopard at WWDC.

Sorry, folks, just trying to be realistic here for those thinking some awe inspiring completely new system is coming in the next couple of weeks.

If iPhone is using a version of Leopard, I still think that a secret feature may be the ability to control Leopard on a Mac via multi-touch using something like a modified Wacom tablet designed for finger input. Maybe even a replacement of keyboard and mouse with a single tablet that connects to a computer.
