My macbook has been playing up and doing stupid things like "software update" not working and finding new software and some other minor stuff so I decided to do an archive and install.

I put all my apple boxes in the loft along with the OS disks for safe keeping but kept my OS X Family install DVD in the study for ease of use.

I am fully aware that the OS X DVD should only work with certain Apple hardware but was amazed that when I came to use it on my macbook 2.2 (which incidentally came with leopard anyway) it told me "Mac OS X cannot be installed on this hardware.

My only guess is that as I purchased the leopard family pack when kit was released and the macbook 2.2 came out AFTER this, that this will not work and maybe the macbook has components inside that require updated drivers?

is this so? I did try absolutely everything including formatting the drive again and it came up with this message after selecting the install language and also pressing "C" on boot.

After I got the OS X disk that came with my macbook it worked straight away.

So am I right in saying that the Leopard family disk is really only for hardware before around november 2007? and should you need to reinstall leopard on any other newer hardware you should use the disk that came with that hardware? (I am going to have to find my leopard disks that came with my Mac Pro now as I really dont know where they are!)

Of course you're right, they can't have made drivers in Nov 07 for hardware that had not been created yet.

Thanks :) , I understood that it made sense but originally coming from a windows background I sort of thought it might install basic drivers and the OS. Then connect up and install the updates.
    You know, like XP (spit)
