Dialogs are not read top-to-bottom, left-to-right. You read the buttons first, then the title bar (if easily visible), then you'll scan the text, then if you absolutely must you'll waste seconds of your valuable life actually reading the whole text in sentence form. Since the "Delete file" text is nearly invisible in that screenshot, that dialog will be read like this:

[Yes][No]
Bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla bla Recycle Bin?
Bla bla bla bla bla
Bla bla bla bla bla
Bla bla bla bla bla

Which is fine if you meant to bring up the dialog, but what if you brought it up accidentally? Many users get in the habit of always clicking Yes and OK. Buttons that will have destructive actions should be labeled clearly with what will happen.

I'll buy that. :)

I think this is the wrong way to go!

Its pulling apart mac os into a waterd down version of itself they will continue to add this stuff untill there is no difference between iOS and Mac OS!

What we'll be left with is a powerfull but waterd down mac iOS/hybrid platform with downloads through the app store like the iphone and ipad killing the powerfull features we have but running on every apple device!

I personally think apple will kill the ability to download any content through safari in the future in mac os!

So all apps will be vetted by apple and all music/films we HAVE to be made through itunes no popping on to amazon or whever to make a purchase through a browser on your imac or macbook!

I hate the direction this is going they are building a walled garden around mac os slowly and dont be supprised the ports start disapearing on the macbook soon for a 30pin dock!

Bad move apple!

As I'm sure others have noted, this jus seems less efficient than CMD-delete. I suppose more options are good, and I get this is a transition towards a more pervasive touch interface, but for computers with physical keyboards, this leaves me cold.

I always wanted a CMD-delete action for Dashboard; this seems like a step back.

TO ALL FANBOYS:

This is better than what we have now.
Life goes on. Live moves forward. Apple is a forward-thinking company.

Deal with it!

You're right, that is a post fanboys would appreciate.

you people like to discuss about everything.

Wanna talk about it? ;-)

Haha so many mad fanboys. " APL Y U RUIN MY OSX"

I think its a neat trinket, deleting apps this way, but nothing major worth over analyzing.

Thank Goodness

I'm glad Apple is thinking for themselves and leaving the purists behind as they adopt newer, better ways of doing things. The idea of installing from a disc image is ridiculous. Anyone I've explained it to can understand it, but always mention there must be a better way. "Install" is much better than launching a disc image, opening an applications window, and then dragging the icon over to the other window. Also, dragging a file to the trash doesn't delete all the pieces it came with. An uninstall was needed. I have been using AppZapper, but this will now be built into the OS.

The furture of apple:

No macbooks.

Hybrid mac iOS tablets
will all Software through there stores no browser downloading of 3rd party apps unless aproved by apple.

No imacs
in favour of 27 displays capable of docking the tablet to with a keyboard!

Apple will be a tablet/iphone/ipod company thats post pc ditching the notebook and desktop platform in favour of a powerfull waterd down mac os/ hybrid tablet!

Post pc = a step backward!

This shows exactly where Apple is headed with OSes. It is combining its iOS and OS X for consistency. I think one OS brand is the future Apple envisions whether we like it or not.

They could have simplified the whole process in the following way:

(blah blah blah)

Both sound more logical and intuitive than this.
You assume that the method described here is/will be the ONLY way to do this.

How many different ways can you create a new folder on a hard drive? I can think of three without even trying.

I guess that's way easier than dragging it to the trash?
Dragging an application to the trash doesn't delete all the associated files littering your Library, or hidden files, or…

Yes but are they bringing:

Ios to the mac

Mac to the ios

The wrong way around is going to kill power users and the openeness thats left of the mac os operating system do we really want a closed off mac os/ios hybrid?

Mac os should be advancing not getting waterd down with simple user toys! We are going to be paying more for less!

iPad Pro?
Macbook dead!

I think it is a nice feature, I can't say that it is "amazing" or "horrible." It's not that major of a feature, But just another "Apple Gesture" that will most likely simplify deleting multiple applications at once.

Kind of like the four-finger-swipe to switch applications and etc.

*shrugs*

I still get updates for "Hands Off" even though ive deleted every file i can see relating to it. any help?

hopefully it removes every file

Agreed. I prefer Command + Delete, but I suppose it's nice to have options. Personally, I'm not much of a fan of the launchpad for OS X idea, but I'm sure it appeals to some people.

I was under the impression an Apple fanboy is someone who applauds whatever move Apple makes to lead us into a brighter future .

Besides, the new feature doesn't delete apps, only applets, if that . ;)

I like it, but right now there's 3 ways to install apps: App Store, download from internet and drag to applications folder, installer wizard (like MS Office). Also, the difference between the applications folder and LaunchPad will be confusing for most users. This whole thing needs to be unified. Either get rid of the Applications folder or get rid of LaunchPad.

Afaik, there is no apps folder on the dock by default in lion. Launchpad has taken it's place.

"powerful but watered down."

So in other words: "powerful but much easier to use for everyone."

Sounds good to me. Go iOS.

However, if we take your sentence in full:

"What we'll be left with is a powerfull but waterd down mac iOS/hybrid platform with downloads through the app store like the iphone and ipad killing the powerfull features we have but running on every apple device!"

Then it's just nonsense! LOL

Not the end of the world(OSX to some folks)...

Consistency is "cool" and all...but I'm one of these weird people who like traditional file structures, trashcans, mice, keyboards...ya know, all that old foggie stuff;) And for the love of Caprica 6, please don't let this be a hint to future touchscreen Macs. I already get OCD when my iPad/iPhone looks like the windows of a school bus.

bringing a number of the user interface aspects of iOS to the Mac OS X platform, offering a more consistent experience with the goal of making it easier for users to move between platforms

keep dumbing down OSX, maybe those windows users may be able to finally grasp it.

Now, if Microsoft and Adobe would just get on board with this for their Mac applications. Office and Creative Suite spew crap everywhere.

Hmm..that'll feel odd...

Hold down for 2(ish) seconds
click 'X'
click 'ok'.

OR

Drag to trash...

Seems like change for the sake of change. Hardly a groundbreaking new feature.

No you forgot that when you drag to trash you have to open the trash application and empty the trash to completely remove the app. Don't forget that sometimes putting apps in the trash and removing it doesn't remove some files that the app contains that would still stay on the computer.

Hopefully this new iOS app deletion that they are bringing to the mac would COMPLETELY remove the app and files that goes along with it.
