Considering...
OK... "newbie" here...
I'm considering an XServe only because of the "rack-mount" capability. I am actually intending to use it in a recording studio control booth, running ProTools and Digital Performer apps.
I have heard rumor that the XServe units (specifically the 8-core 2.8 GHz) model) can run the regular old client version of 10.6.8. Does anyone know if this is the case?
Past that, will the regular client version still have this CPU-overuse issue? If so, will only updating to the version prior to 10.6.8 solve the CPU-overuse problem?
I'm running some older audio applications (as listed), and don't need or want to drop thousands of dollars to upgrade applications that, as it stands, work just fine for me. The XServe would be a perfect "upgrade" from my quad-core 2.0 GHz Mac Pro, I'm just concerned about the compatibility and this processor-overuse issue I see people writing about.
Anyone?
